According to the reports and statements made by the police, a woman from Andhra Pradesh who had only ₹41 in her bank account, scammed a luxury hotel in Aerocity, Delhi.
Woman Scams Hotel For ₹6 Lakhs
During her 15-day stay at Pullman Hotel, she availed spa services worth ₹2 Lakhs. She has now been arrested for not paying her total bill of ₹6 Lakhs.
The woman identifying as Jhansi Rani Samuel booked the hotel on December 13, 2023. She also used a fake identity card of one Isha Dave, according to the hotel staff.
The investigation around this case is still going on, said the police officials, however, she has been booked under Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC.
Previous Hotel Scams In India
This is not the first time that we have heard of such a scam. Earlier, a man pretending to be an employee of the Abu Dhabi Royal family scammed the Leela Palace Hotel in Delhi for over four months. Out of his total bill of ₹35 Lakhs, he fled without paying more than half of it. Apart from that, he had stolen silverware and a mother-of-pearl tray from the room.
In another incident, a man named Ankush Dutta conned the luxurious Roseate House hotel near the Indira Gandhi International Airport for ₹58 Lakhs. He carried the whole scam out with help from a member of the hotel staff.
