The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, also known as Thiruvarangam, stands majestically in Srirangam, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. This sprawling temple complex, built in the Dravidian architectural style, is dedicated to Ranganatha, a form of Lord Vishnu, who is depicted as sleeping on the serpent Adishesha. The deity is housed in a massive sanctum sanctorum. The temple contains other shrines devoted to different forms of Lord Vishnu, such as Sakrathazhvar, Narasimha, and Rama, in addition to the main shrine of Ranganatha.

Beyond its architectural grandeur, the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is a vibrant center of Vaishnavism, the devotional tradition dedicated to Vishnu. The temple witnesses a constant flow of devotees who come to seek blessings, offer prayers, and participate in various rituals and festivals.

The temple is the first in Tamil Nadu to be granted the UNESCO Asia Pacific Award of Merit 2017 for cultural heritage protection in 2017.

Built in the Hindu architectural style, the Ranganathaswamy Temple is said to have been built during the Vijayanagara era (1336–1565). The Thenkalai tradition of Sri Vaishnavism is followed and worshiped in the temple.

According to UNESCO, The temple is not just a temple, but a temple-town with a distinctive Sapta-Prakaram formation, a temple-centered settlement pattern made up of seven concentric rectangular enclosures, encircling the sanctum sanctorum, where the deity resides, and surrounded by massive, thick rampart walls. It also has 21 brightly sculpted gopurams (consecrated gateways with towers). In addition to the seven prakarams with their enormous walls, the Temple Complex boasts fifty sub-shrines, nine sacred pools, a gilded Vimana (dome) over the sanctum sanctorum of the presiding deity, and other intriguing features like fresco paintings.
