It is Thanksgiving today, and we are thankful for F.R.I.E.N.D.S. With all its pitfalls and storylines that didn’t age well, it still remains one of the most-watched TV shows of all time. The diehard fans of the show have memorised most of its dialogues and often quote them in between conversations to set the vibe.

However, for most Indians, Thanksgiving is not a holiday, but with access to American sitcoms, everyone understands the importance of the day. While we may not carve turkeys or have our friends over for a feast, we can certainly get into the spirit of the day by re-watching the Thanksgiving-special episodes of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Some of the major plot twists on the show also happened around this festival so it will be a nice jog down memory lane.

Here’s a look at the most loved Thanksgiving episodes.

Season 1: The One Where Underdog Gets Away

One of the best episodes of season one was The One Where Underdog Gets Away. Joey could not go to visit his folk because he became the face of VD posters, Ross was dealing with Susan talking to his unborn child, Chandler did not celebrate Thanksgiving, and Rachel was trying to collect enough money to go skiing with her family.

Amid all this, Monica took the responsibility to cook for everyone, including making different kinds of mashed potatoes as per everyone’s preference. However, they all got locked out of the apartment, and by the time Joey could open the door, everything was burnt, and Rachel had missed her flight. It was the first time when all the friends had Thanksgiving dinner like Chandler, like a family.

Season 5: The One With All The Thanksgivings

Around season five, Monica and Chandler started dating and were hiding it from other friends, except Joey knew. This episode had flashbacks to other Thanksgiving dinners that these friends had together at different points in time.

One of the funniest flashbacks was when Joey stuck his head inside a turkey and later could not get it out. In the same episode, Chandler realised that he lost a part of his toe because he had called Monica fat in the past.

He got angry with her. To pacify him, Monica wore a turkey on her head, decorated it with a red hat and yellow sunglasses and danced. At that moment, Chandler confessed his love for her for the first time.

Season 6: The One Where Ross Got High

This is one of the most loved episodes of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. because Monica and Ross get into a silly sibling fight where they end up sharing funny secrets to their parents. It is also where Jack and Judy came to know that Monica and Chandler were living together.

However, it was not yet the best part of the episode. The One Where Ross Got High is also the first episode where we saw Rachel cooking. She tried to make an English Trifle but ended up making a dessert with meat, onions, and ladyfinger. “It tastes like feet,” Ross said, horrified, to Joey who seemed to enjoy the bizarre dish.

Season 8: The One With The Rumour

The One With The Rumour was a special episode in season eight of F.R.I.E.N.D.S because it had Brad Pitt as a guest star on the show. Around this time, Rachel was pregnant with Ross’s baby, and she came to know that Will and Ross were a part of a club called ‘I Hate Rachel Green’ in high school.

However, the thing that made her lose her calm was when she revealed that both men spread a rumour about her that she was a hermaphrodite. This was also the episode where Joey took upon the challenge to finish an entire turkey all by himself.

Season 9: The One With Rachel’s Other Sister

In season nine, we got to meet Rachel’s second sister, Amy. She was the one who kept goofing up everyone’s names. Since she had nowhere to go, Rachel ended up inviting her to Monica and Chandler’s Thanksgiving dinner.

In this episode, Ross and Rachel made an announcement that if anything happened to them, their daughter Emma would go to Chandler and Monica. In the end, the two sisters got into a fight and ended up breaking a plate from Monica’s elegant crockery set that she had reserved for the Queen of England if she were ever to visit.
