The ‘Dhak Dhak’ star Sanjana Sanghi walked the runway for Anju Modi in a signature colour that the designer has released for this collection. The ensemble has Indian handicraft embroidery motifs inspired by folktales of the land and the ‘tree of life’ motifs on the skirt.

Sanjana Sanghi sure made all the hearts in the room go ‘Dhak Dhak’ as she turned muse for Anju Modi. The millennial actor wore a cropped blouse with handloom work that featured a deep plunge-daring neckline and tiny yet chic sleeves. The ‘choli’ aka ‘blouse’ was detailed all over with similar hand embroidery work to the lehenga skirt. It was embellished with tassel detailing around the hemline that added a wow-factor to the look.

HerZindagi caught the design world royalty, Anju Modi on camera post her showcase that had all the glitter one could imagine featured in the Lakme X Anju Modi ‘Glitterati’ collection.

We asked the couturier what was her inspiration behind the collection?

Anju Modi quickly reverted saying, “So when the Lakme salon people approached me to do a global brides kind of look which is very modern but also seeped in our tradition also at the same time because our whole culture of museum designs and craft is so old dating back to thousands of years and is so precious. The repertoire is so very beautiful, so why should we leave that behind. In fact, we should be able to reinvent it, use those beautiful techniques of our country and modernise it to be apt for today’s requirement. So that is the designer’s role as to how they modernise the whole concept and still keep the art alive.”

We asked the master designer herself what her inspiration was behind the collection and what are its major themes?

Anju Modi responded saying, “Well, the collection is called ‘Fluid Algorithm’. It has a name frankly I gave it a name which is rooted in the fact that in computer science you have got certain rules and algorithms that you just cannot break. But my concept was that, yes, that any rules can be broken so that is why it is fluid and the set norms of the tradition can be converted into the modern way of dressing. Hence, at a later date if a bride or whoever is kind of wearing the ensemble they can use it with a different ensemble all together.”

The design stalwart gave DIY styling ideas to use her signature ensembles in different ways saying,

  • “You know you can use the trench coat can be worn with a pair of pants,
  •  jackets can be work with a drape skirt or a pant

So anything is really possible.”

We further asked her what would be her top picks for the wedding and festive season from her ‘Fluid Algorithm’ collection?

She promptly reverted saying, “She picked an ivory outfit that the show opened with, the outfit that the showstopper Sanjana Sanghi wore, the lilac lehenga, the blues including all the cobalt blues and indigo blues were fabulous.”

She quickly added, “Actually each one of them is my favourite but if you ask for my top picks I am mentioning the ones that are coming to my mind.”

Anju Modi extended deep thanks and gratitude to her florist, set and stage designer Megha Modi whom she chose to do her set to add the dreamy and ethereal look to the show.

The master couturier reverted, “Let me say something, from the last thousand years our museums are still having the same designs and crafts which everybody is dying to own. So I take my inspiration from that timeless archive and then I design it from the heart. So it ends up blending so beautifully and they are timeless couture pieces.”

She adds, “I meet my clients and they say, ‘Oh! I bought it twenty years ago and I still wear it and I still get so many compliments and they are so happy to buy it again and again.’ So the whole idea is to make it timeless because these are beautiful handwork pieces which require a certain kind of time and energy to make them, which is sort of lyrical and spiritual. So that is the reason behind why these ensembles are made truly made timeless”
