Korean cuisine has diversified over time and there has been a significant rise in the consumption of Korean cuisine in India after the covid lockdown. Korean cuisine is mainly composed of rice, veggies, a lot of protein, and spices, making it a generally healthy wholesome option. In Korea, Tteokbokki is one of the most popular Korean food items which is now famous across the nation.
Tteokbokki is a soft, chewy rice cake that is stir-fried in the sauce. They are cylindrical rice cakes cooked in a hot & spicy sauce. Boiled eggs and fish cakes are usually served with Tteokbokki. Traditionally it is made with seaweed or fish stock, gochujang paste, and gochugaru chilli flakes.
This classic and famous Korean dish has appeared in a lot of popular Korean dramas like the 2015 Korean drama Oh My Venus, the 2019 Korean drama Romance is a Bonus Book and the 2020 hit K-dramas True Beauty. So if you also loved watching your favourite stars having Tteokbokki and craved one yourself then why don’t you try making it at home? Here we have an easy Tteokbokki recipe to make at home:
Ingredients Of Tteokbokki:
1 cup rice flour
4 to 5 dry red chillies
1 tsp Korean red chilli pepper paste (Gochujang)
2 to 3 tomatoes
1 tbsp green chilli sauce
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp ketchup
1 to 2 tbsp oil
1/4 cup coriander leaves
1 tbsp sesame seed

1 tsp red chilli powder
1/3 tbsp black pepper powder
2 finely chopped spring onions

How To Make Tteokbokki:
1. In a bowl add some rice flour and knead it with lukewarm water to make a dough. After it's done, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
2. Roll out the dough into a cylindrical shape and cut it into 1-inch pieces.
3. Boil some water in a vessel and add the pieces to it and let them cook for 8-10 minutes. After it is cooked properly, take them out and keep them aside.
4. Grind two tomatoes, two dry red chillies, ginger, garlic cloves, soy sauce, vinegar, ketchup, and coriander leaves into a paste after blanching them in hot water.
5. Now in a medium-sized pan heat some oil and toast sesame seeds. Then add the ground mix to the pan and mix it well.
6. Put in cooked rice cakes, chopped onions, red chilli powder, and black pepper powder. To make the sauce more fluid, add more water. You can also add Korean red chilli pepper paste (Gochujang). Then let it boil for 5-8 mins more.
7. Put off the heat and serve hot. You can garnish your Tteokbokki with some chopped spring onions, coriander leaves, boiled eggs or mozzarella cheese.
