A few months ago, Bollywood actor Huma Qureshi has received a lot of praise from fans and critics for her performance in ‘Tarla’, where she played the role of Tarla Dalal. The movie is based on the life of popular chef Tarla Dalal. The ‘Tarla’ movie was released on Zee5 on July 7, 2023.
Her father Salem Qureshi added Tarla Dalal's popular Batata Musallam dish to his restaurant Saleem's menu in response to his daughter's movie. People now visit Saleem's several outlets in Delhi to taste Batata Musallam dishes. Needless we say that this dish will help you impress your new family in a jiffy.
Huma visited her father's restaurant with her co-star Sharib Hashmi to enjoy Batata Musallam. She also shared a thread of pictures where we saw her posing with her father, a pic of Batata Musallam, and many more.
Sharing the post on Instagram, she wrote, “Tarla was here 🤍 at Saleem’s eating Batata Musalam. The journey of Tarla and Saleem’s started back in the 70s. Today, almost 50 years later, looking at these two worlds come together makes my heart swell with pride. The power of food and how it brings communities together is one of the most beautiful things about India.”
Batata Musallam is a delicious, spicy, and aromatic potato dish. It is made by frying potatoes and then cooking them in a flavorful tomato-based gravy. Here is the recipe for new brides to make Batata Musallam at home.
Ingredients For Batata Musallam:
- 4-5 medium-sized potatoes
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2-3 dried red chilli
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 2 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander

How To Make Batata Musallam:
1. Peel and dice the potatoes into small cubes. Rinse them well and drain the water.
2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and dried red chilli. Fry for a few seconds until fragrant.
3. Now add the chopped onions and fry till they turn golden brown.
4. Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for 1-2 minutes.
5. Now add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder. Mix all these well for a minute.

6. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
7. Add salt to taste and mix well. Add a cup of water and let the gravy simmer for 5-7 minutes.
8. Now in another pan, heat oil and fry the diced potatoes until they turn golden brown.
9. Add the fried potatoes to the tomato gravy and mix well.
10. Cook covered on low flame for 10-15 minutes or until the potatoes are soft and the gravy thickens.
11. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot with rice or roti and enjoy your delicious and spicy Batata Musallam.
