Everyone likes to keep the freshness intact with soothing scents. We all do our best in the morning and apply deodorant or perfume before stepping out of the house.
However, does the scent remain through the day or vanish as sweating takes over? It gets even more difficult to maintain fragrance in the summer season. Therefore, we spoke to Bhakti Doshi, an entrepreneur, to understand how a person can layer scents to keep the body smelling fresh throughout the day.
What Is Layering Of Fragrances?
The process of combining two or more scents is called the layering of fragrances. The concept of layering comes from the Middle East where people used to layer about seven scents altogether.
The decadent style travelled across seas, and soon people around the globe started following the method, creating their scents and adding intensity to the body fragrance. It enhances the capacity of a scent to last long, especially when you live in a tropical region where the summer season brings scorching heat.
How To Layer Fragrances?
Doshi said that the best way to layer is to pick different fragrances that can complement each other. There is a specific method or order involved in the process to ensure the scent would last long.
For example, you use a body wash during bathing, layer it with a soothing body lotion and top it all with a perfume. The body wash is the base, a lotion is a moisturising agent, and perfume adds a little overpowering note.

Things To Keep In Mind While Layering
Doshi shared that one must take care of the fact that scents do not overpower each other. For example, if the body wash has the scent of citrus, you can layer it with a bergamot-scented lotion, followed by a perfume (perfumes are lady's best friend) with a grapefruit fragrance.
Though traditionally, people in the Middle East used to mix seven fragrances, you do not have to do the same. You should opt for two to three products only and apply them sparingly on your body.
The entrepreneur suggested avoiding floral rosy scents with musky or woody notes. Fruity or spicy fragrances can create an unpleasant scent when layered with other scented products. You should also be careful of the intensity of fragrances you are layering at any point of the day.

Importance Of Layering
Layering is a personal choice which can help you keep your body fresh throughout the day. Some people sweat more often than others and might need some extra effort to ward off the smell, which can sometimes make the situation embarrassing.

Scents interact with natural oils and warmth. Therefore, when you apply any perfume over a body lotion, it remains for longer hours. However, you should avoid rubbing the scents, it can make them disperse quickly.
