Swollen tonsils, pain while swallowing, coughing, and scratchy sensation in the throat are a few common symptoms of the condition. While this requires medical attention to ensure that there is no underlying cause, if it is just because you are under the weather, home remedies from your grandmother’s diary can help you experience relief.

Dr Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya, Ayurvedic Expert and Co-founder of The Kadamba Tree, shared a reel on her Instagram in which she mentioned a few quick recipes that promise relief in this harsh weather. 

Amla Juice And Honey Remedy For Sore Throat

Amla has antioxidants and vitamin C, and honey is known for decreasing inflammation and irritation. Hence, this remedy can work wonders for you. Mix a teaspoon of honey with 15-20 ml of amla juice, and consume this twice a day for effective results. 

Salt And Turmeric Water Gargles For Sore Throat

Gargling helps a lot with a sore throat. Even doctors suggest this practice along with a liquid to be mixed with warm water. However, you can also try mixing a tablespoon of turmeric powder and half a tablespoon of salt in water and boiling the ingredients for at least five minutes. You should gargle with this mixture 3-4 times a day, mentioned Dr Savaliya in her caption. 

Turmeric has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, and salt water helps to reduce the pain one experiences while swallowing. It also brings down the number of bad bacteria developing in the throat.

Fenugreek Seeds For Sore Throat

Apart from multiple health benefits of fenugreek seeds, they are also known for their anti-fungal properties and killing bacteria that adversely affect the throat and cause irritation. Boil a teaspoon of these seeds in not more than 250 ml of water, strain it, and consume it hot or cold. You can consume it with a small amount of honey or lemon juice if you don’t like the bitter taste.

Tulsi For Sore Throat

Tulsi is one of the preferred ingredients by Indians to treat colds and coughs at home. According to Dr Savaliya’s recipe, boil 4-5 fresh leaves of tulsi in a cup of water, strain it, and drink it. You can also eat the leaves as they have many medicinal properties. A lot of households add tulsi leaves to tea as well.

Lemon And Honey For Sore Throat

Lemon has vitamin C and pain-relieving properties. Therefore, mixing a teaspoon of lemon juice with half a tablespoon of honey in warm water can help you experience relief from sore throat and its other symptoms.

Along with this, you can continue sipping hot water throughout the day. It will help with itching and pain.

Liquorice For Sore Throat

Liquorice powder is considered an excellent home remedy to experience relief from the symptoms of sore throat. Mix a teaspoon of the powder with a tablespoon of honey and eat it twice a day. You also add this mixture to warm water and gargle with it two times a day.

Cinnamon For Sore Throat

Old studies and Ayurveda suggest that cinnamon is good for patients dealing with colds, coughs, sore throats, and symptoms of flu. It has anti-inflammatory properties and comes packed with antioxidants. 

Boil a teaspoon of cinnamon powder or a small stick in 250 ml of water for 5-8 minutes. Strain this mixture, allow it to cool down a bit, and consume it once a day with honey or lemon juice.

Milk And Ginger For Sore Throat

You must have seen your parents preferring ginger tea in the winter season. It is because the beverage soothes a dry and itchy throat. You can mix a teaspoon of dry ginger powder or grate an inch of ginger in a glass of milk. Dr Savaliya suggested consuming this mixture before bedtime, and it will also help you improve your sleep pattern.
